Pricing Structure Change

One of the challenges of being a solopreneur is the lack of immediate feedback. When working on a team, you can bounce ideas off each other and get instant feedback. When working for yourself, you typically receive zero feedback until something is published.
Idealism Meets Reality
When I founded Railgun Labs, I disliked how opaque many businesses are with their pricing model. I wanted my pricing to be transparent. Unfortunately, I learned through trial & error and user feedback that transparent pricing isn’t always better.
What I’ve discovered is that publicizing prices actually scares away many price-conscious businesses. They see the prices and think there’s no room to negotiate! Not true. Prices are open to negotiation.
Hybrid Pricing
I’ve decided to move to a hybrid pricing model for all software products. Under this model, prices continue to be explicitly listed for individual users, but on a “contact us” basis for business. Put plainly: Starting today, all new business users must contact Railgun Labs for a quote. This change is intended to make pricing transparent when transparency reduces friction, but preserve negotiation for businesses whose budget varies dramatically.
